Abstract

This study examines the connotations of time and place in Khalil Mardam Bey's poetry from the perspective of reading and interpretation. This is because the presence of time and place in this poetic experience acquires distinction and diversity in formation and creativity. Some phenomena and methods reveal the nature of this presence and its manifestations, indicating the richness of its meanings, connotations, and interactions, which gives it a momentum of regularity and comprehensiveness. It also highlights his distinctive presence, which represents an essential part of the components of the poetic image at the level of language and meaning. The aim of this study, “The Implications of Time and Place in Khalil Mardam Bey’s Poetry,” is to understand how Khalil Mardam Bey uses time and place as basic elements in his poetry, and how this is manifested in expressing different themes and conveying diverse messages. The results of the study indicate that the implication of time in Khalil Mardam Bey’s poetry is reflected in several ways. Khalil Mardam Bey refers to specific time periods in his poems. Whether by history or specific time periods, our poet may reflect feelings of nostalgia or memories of previous periods, which gives a special temporal flavor to his poems, as he links place and time in his poetry. As a means of description and aesthetic imagery, he creates visual images that enhance the aesthetics of the text and engage the reader. He also uses numerous symbols and poetic techniques to represent time and place in his poetry.
