The contemporary Arab poets live in a very inconsistent conditions and the effects of these conditions can be found in their personality and poems. As the results of important political events, some contradictions such as differences between urban and rural life, individual and social trends, or the contrast of wisdom and sense arose and intensified. Badr al-Shakir al-Siab (1926-1964), one of the Iraq’s contemporary poets, lived in such a world of contradictions: between reality and desire, freedom and bondage, poverty and richness and so on. The result of these conditions was to try to achieve ideal situation but attaining failure, disappointment and pessimism which along with bitter events of childhood cause the formation of a dual structure in her poems. So this essay aims to investigate the contradictions of her poems with a descriptive-analytic method.
