Abstract

The subject of the Other and its image in the works and writings of the human sciences are of great importance, for it is by the self-knowledge that we can understand the Other. There is no doubt that the ba'athist Other is one of the most important issues addressed by the Arabic novel since the Persian Gulf War until the US-Iraq War. The novels which expressed issues related to the Ba'athist regime, sought to portray another Ba'athist image and how the ba'athist Other dealt with the Iraqi people in order to yoke them under various ethnocentric slogans and rituals. Iranians, Kuwaitis and Kurds suffered alike from this prejudice, repression, and war. Iraqi novelist Sinan Antoon is trying to show the reader the true face of the Ba'athist regime through his novels. The leading character is a young student named "Euphrates" who is harmed by the Ba'athist regime's misbehavior and is forced to make a false confession. This research has studied the novel "Ajam" using imagology and descriptive-analytical method. The results show the ba'athist Other, using threats, repression and execution, has tried to spread his dominance in Iraq and other areas, and is the main owner of the war in the region, and even further, it has tortured and forced children to confess by putting their families under pressure in order to achieve his sinister goals.
