Abstract

Functional theories of grammar have received wide attention from scholars and scholars in linguistics and humanities. It belongs to structural and humanistic linguistics and tends to focus on the way language is actually used in a communicative context. Michael Halliday's theory of systemic functional linguistics is one of the most important theories of linguistics that systematically analyzes various literary texts with an emphasis on social maps and contexts of language. In all parts of his theory, he pays special attention to the context and concept inside and outside the text and emphasizes the social role of language due to its importance in the external context of speech and makes it a completely social phenomenon During the 1960s, linguistics became increasingly influenced by Holliday theories, and the issue of coherence was used as a criterion in the study of texts. Therefore, in textual studies of regular texts such as surahs of the Holy Quran and its various translations, one can better understand them by analyzing the coherence of the text. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the factors of coherence in Surah Shams and its Persian translation by Mohammad Mehdi Fooladvand, based on descriptive-analytical and statistical methods. The proximity of the coherence ratio of Surah (97.16) with its Persian translation (97٪) indicates the significant presence of non-structural cohesion elements governing them. Almost both source and target languages contain all the factors of text coherence. Among them, the grammatical substitution factor (89/24 ٪) which occupies the first place in the surah and the frequency of substitution and omission factors in the surah is more than the translation of the surah.
